South Dakota Quartet to Perform Benefit for PAC Minimize

South Dakota Quartet to Perform Benefit for PAC
7/9/08

When hearing of the proposed performing arts center for Estes Park, director of Master’s IV Gus Scully, contacted Christopher Wood of Supporters of the Performing Arts to see how they could help. He commented on how they have been always looking for a place to perform in Estes Park. Though they could not contribute financially to the cause, they thought it would be even better to put on a concert with all of its proceeds directly going to SOPA for the construction of the new theater. With co-ordination from the YMCA of the Rockies, and pastor Bill Heuth, the place was secured at Hyde Chapel on the YMCA campus. The concert will be held on Saturday, July 19th at 7:30 PM. There are no tickets, but a cash or check donation will be taken to go towards the construction of the new theater. Doors will open ½ hour prior showtime with limited seating available.

The Masters IV is a Southern Gospel Quartet headquartered in Rapid City, SD, and formed in June, 2001. In these few short years, they have performed in many venues throughout the upper Midwest, receiving rave reviews. They have a rich repertoire of favorite contemporary and beloved hymns. The members are Mike Gibson - Tenor, Monte Bertsch - Lead, Bill Scholl - Baritone, Gus Scully - Bass and Jerry Stordahl - Sound Engineer.

This concert will be the second in the Singing for a Theater Benefit Series. National Park Players hosted a fun-filled evening with the comedic Forever Plaid musical raising just over $1,800 in cash donations on June 22nd. Following this event, the local Oratorio Society and chamber choirs with orchestra will combine forces to bring a night of all Gershwin music on Sunday night, July 27th, 7:30 PM at Mountain View Bible Fellowship. Upcoming ticketed events include a concert of operatic nature by the gifted Isola Jones on Tuesday, August 5th and the musical talents of Tia Sillers and Mark Selby on August 12th. Tickets are currently available at MacDonald Bookshop.

To date, the Supporters of the Performing Arts has raised $1.3M in its capital campaign towards a $5M goal. The town of Estes Park has dedicated the land and an annual operating subsidy of $217,000 once the facility is opened. With funds in place by December of 2009, the anticipated opening date will be spring of 2010. There are still attractive naming rights available, and all gifts are gratefully appreciated.
