| Rocky Mt. HI Energy Performances to Benefit SOPA Supporters of the Performing Arts (SOPA) benefit series started out with a “boost” when it raised $2752 by free-will offering at its “Showcasing the Steinway: A Piano In Waiting” on June 16th. More than 143 attended that concert giving many fine accolades to the upcoming musicians. SOPA is just $750,000 away from its halfway point in the ambitious, yet achievable endeavor of raising the roof of a Performing Arts Center for Estes Park. With just a few large and generous gifts, the project would be catapulted into a new phase as it pushes towards its last ½ of $3 million. CHASED, the accomplished and re-known jazz band out of Denver will rock Estes Park’s Amphitheater on Saturday evening, July 10th at 7 PM. Its style is noted for it’s screaming hi trumpet phrases and the likeness of bands like “Chicago.” CHASED's performances are characterized by the four high-note trumpets that Jim Szantor of Downbeat magazine called "the hallmark of the Chase brass—complex cascading lines; a literal waterfall of trumpet timbre and technique. The following Saturday, July 17, at 7 PM at the Amphitheater, Estes Park and its visitors will be treated to the vocal stylings of vocal quartet McPhly. Since being formed in 2002, this upcoming and rapidly recognized men’s quartet has performed in 11 states. Though they are credited with their tight vocal harmonies in the style of barbershop, they also stretch the ear by showcasing jazz charts as well. On Saturday, July 24 at 7 PM the Estes Park High School Auditorium will be filled with the songs of Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore. Estes Park’s Oratorio Society will repeat that same concert on Sunday afternoon at 3 PM with sponsorship by McGregor Mountain Lodge. All concerts benefit the new performing arts center with a free-will offering being taken to offset expenses.
