| Get On Your Feet and Build aPerforming Arts Center for Estes Park! Supporters of the Performing Arts (SOPA) presents CHASED as its next benefit concert for its summer series on Saturday, July 10th at 7 PM at Performance Park. CHASED is a 9-piece Denver band re-creating the charisma of the '70s band CHASE. The original CHASE band, which rivaled Blood, Sweat & Tears and Chicago in terms ofjazz/rock power, came to an end in 1974 with the plane-crash death of founder Bill Chase. Chase had developed his prowess in jazz while playing lead trumpet with the Maynard Ferguson and Woody Herman bands. He later organized his own group featuring a front line of four trumpets with vocalist and rhythm section. While the original CHASE songs and arrangements disappeared after Chase's death, Denver trumpeters (and co-leaders) Scott Handler and Jay Nakagawa have managed to transcribe charts from the original recordings. Scott notes: "It's a blast to play. It's precision is tight, and it gets you fired up." Some of the charts played on the 10th will include : Woman Of the Dark, Run Back To Mama, Get It On, Boys And Girls Together, Handbags And Gladrags Love IS On The Way, Bochawa, and So Many People. CHASED's performances are characterized by the four high-note trumpets that Jim Szantor of Downbeat magazine called "the hallmark of the Chase brass—complex cascading lines; a literal waterfall of trumpet timbre and technique." Vocalist Stuart Dameron's stylings bring all of the excitement and energy of this era to life with his dynamic performances. The group has played to sold-out houses at Dazzle Jazz Club in Denver and will be a real treat to Estes Park residents and visitors alike. There is no ticket needed to see the show, however a free will offering will be taken. Come out, bring your lawn chair and a picnic dinner, and enjoy the evening. The following Saturday, July 17th, will feature the vocal stylings of the acclaimed acappella quartet McPhly at 7 PM at performance park.
