6/2/08

The Supporters Of the Performing Arts, Inc. received a grant for the construction of a new performing arts center for Estes Park in the Amount of $25,000 from the El Pomar Foundation of Colorado Springs, CO.

The El Pomar Foundation was established in 1937 by Spencer and Julie Penrose to enhance, encourage and promote the current and future well-being of the people of Colorado through grant making and community stewardship.

Based in Colorado Springs, El Pomar Foundation is one of the largest and oldest private foundations in the Rocky Mountain West, with assets totaling more than $550 million. El Pomar contributes $25 million annually through grants and Community Stewardship Programs to support Colorado nonprofit organizations involved in health, human services, education, arts and culture, and civic and community initiatives.

From its inception, El Pomar Foundation has provided more than $370 million in capital, program, and general operating support through direct grant making. In all, El Pomar Trustees have approved more than 8,300 grants.

The combination of El Pomar’s grant making and Community Stewardship Programs provides a diversified approach to philanthropy that allows greater flexibility and responses tailored to the needs of Colorado’s communities.

To date, the Supporters of the Performing Arts (SOPA) has raised approximately $1,275,000 in cash pledges, donations and grants. SOPA’s goal is to raise a total of $5M for the construction of a center for the performing arts by the Fall of 2009. The land valued at approximately $250,000 as well as an annual operating subsidy of $217,000 has been dedicated by the town of Estes Park for the project. Supporters of the Performing Arts, a 501 (c) (3) organization, still seeks donors to make this project a reality. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. Attractive naming rights for the facility are still available. For more information, visit our website at www.EstesParkTheater.com or call chairman Christopher Wood at 970-481-6142.
